Our Founder
Fr. Peter Mermier, the visionary founder of the Missionaries of St. Francis de Sales, was born in Savoy, France, in 1790. Known for his deep faith and clear vision, he was greatly inspired by the spirit of St. Francis de Sales. In 1838, Fr. Mermier established the M.S.F.S congregation amidst a time of great spiritual crisis following the French Revolution. The widespread indifference to religious duties led him to embark on a mission of spiritual renewal, primarily through preaching parish missions. This passionate initiative grew into a thriving community of preachers dedicated to spreading the message of faith and educating youth. Guided by Fr. Mermier's spirit, the first M.S.F.S missionaries arrived in India in 1845, where they committed themselves to the cause of educational apostolates across the country. Fr. Mermier's journey came to a close on 30th September 1862, leaving behind a legacy marked by devotion, perseverance, and unwavering faith.
